St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church
St. John the Evangelist is a Roman Catholic parish of the Diocese of Hamilton. Catholics confess the Nicene Creed, receive the seven sacraments, and hold that the Eucharist celebrated at Mass is the body and blood of Christ. St. John the Evangelist is the Catholic parish of Arthur, worshipping in a long buff-brick church on Georgina Street. Dormer windows run the length of the nave roof, and a square bell tower with a cross stands at the entrance front. The parish belongs to the Diocese of Hamilton.
St. John’s is served together with two neighbouring parishes as a tri-parish community: Sacred Heart in Kenilworth, about ten kilometres north, and St. Mary the Immaculate in Palmerston. The weekend Masses are staggered between the three so that one priest can serve them all, and the Sunday morning Mass in Arthur is at 10:30. Weekday Mass is celebrated in Arthur from Tuesday to Friday at nine in the morning.
The parish office is at the church on Georgina Street, with mail going to PO Box 151. St. John Catholic Elementary School, named for the parish, is in the village.
